1. Who we are
Homeowner Assist Pty Ltd (ABN 20 668 294 460) (Homeowner Assist, we, us, our) provides education and program coordination services to Australians exploring pathways to home ownership. We do not provide financial product advice, credit advice or credit assistance, and we do not hold an Australian Financial Services Licence or an Australian Credit Licence.
We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains how we handle personal information collected through our website at homeownerassist.com.au (the Site) and in the course of providing our services.
2. What personal information we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
- Contact details — your name, email address and telephone number.
- Pathway answers — your state or territory and the general pathway you are exploring, when you choose to submit the pathway form on our homepage. Your answers to the separate five-question eligibility check at /learn-if-it-fits are processed in your browser only and are not sent to us.
- Booking details — the date and time of any call you book with us, and any notes you add when booking.
- Enquiry content — anything you choose to tell us by email, phone, message or form.
- Information you provide to our licensed partners — if you choose to proceed with a licensed partner, they will collect further information directly from you under their own privacy policy. Where you authorise it, they may share the outcome of their assessment with us so we can coordinate the next step.
- Technical information — standard web-server logs such as IP address, browser type, pages visited and referring site.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive information (such as health or biometric information) through the Site. Please do not include it in free-text fields.
3. How we collect it
- When you submit the pathway form on our homepage.
- When you submit a form on the Site, including the “keep me updated” form.
- When you book a call through the booking calendar embedded on the Site.
- When you respond to one of our advertisements on a third-party platform (such as a Meta lead form) and consent to your details being sent to us.
- When you email, call or message us.
- Automatically, through cookies and server logs, when you browse the Site.
4. Why we collect it and how we use it
We collect and use your personal information to:
- respond to your enquiry and provide you with general educational information;
- determine, at a general level, whether the pathways we coordinate are worth discussing with you;
- arrange and conduct an information call with you;
- with your consent, introduce you to a licensed credit or financial partner and coordinate the process between you and that partner;
- with your consent, refer you to Super Property Homes Pty Ltd and coordinate that referral (see How we are paid in our Terms of Use);
- keep in touch with you about your enquiry, including by email, and send you information we think may be relevant — you can opt out at any time (see section 8);
- maintain our records and comply with our legal obligations; and
- operate, secure and improve the Site.
5. Who we share it with
We share personal information only where it is necessary for the purposes above, or where the law requires or permits it. Recipients may include:
- Licensed partners. With your agreement, our licensed credit partner, YourLoanAssist (Australian Credit Licence 477483), and where applicable a separately licensed financial adviser. These partners undertake their own assessments and are responsible for their own handling of your information under their own privacy policies.
- Super Property Homes Pty Ltd. With your agreement, we may refer you to Super Property Homes Pty Ltd. Homeowner Assist is their referral partner and is paid by them in connection with clients we refer — see How we are paid in our Terms of Use. They handle your information under their own privacy policy.
- Service providers who help us operate. These currently include providers of customer-relationship management and booking calendars, workflow automation, database and record-keeping, email, secure document collection, website hosting, and advertising and analytics platforms. We require service providers to handle your information only for the purpose of providing their service to us.
- Regulators, courts and law enforcement where we are required to do so.
We do not sell personal information.
6. Disclosure outside Australia
Some of our service providers store or process information on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States. Where we disclose information to an overseas recipient we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled in a manner consistent with the APPs, however you acknowledge that overseas recipients may not be subject to Australian privacy law.
7. Automated screening on the Site
The eligibility questions on the Site are processed in your browser and apply simple, fixed rules to the answers you give in order to suggest whether an information call is likely to be worthwhile. Those answers are not transmitted to us. No decision about your eligibility for any product, program or credit is made by the Site or by Homeowner Assist. Any assessment of eligibility is made separately by a licensed partner, by a person, and you are free to contact us regardless of the result the Site shows you.
8. Marketing and opting out
If you have enquired with us, we may email you information about our services and related educational content. Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can also opt out at any time by emailing admin@homeownerassist.com.au. We will action opt-out requests promptly.
9. Security and retention
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure, including access controls on our systems and the use of reputable service providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We keep personal information for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law, after which we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.
10. Cookies and analytics
The Site uses cookies and similar technologies for essential functionality and, where enabled, to measure how the Site is used. Embedded third-party content on the Site (such as the booking calendar and video players) may set its own cookies under the third party's privacy policy. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may affect some Site features.
11. Accessing and correcting your information
You may ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by emailing admin@homeownerassist.com.au. We will respond within a reasonable period, generally within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before responding. If we decline a request we will tell you why in writing.
12. Complaints
To make a privacy complaint, email admin@homeownerassist.com.au with the subject line “Privacy complaint”, or write to Homeowner Assist Pty Ltd, Burleigh Heads QLD 4220. We will acknowledge your complaint within 7 days and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
If your complaint concerns credit assistance or advice provided to you by a licensed partner, please raise it with that partner first. Licensed credit and financial services providers are required to have their own dispute-resolution process, and unresolved complaints of that kind may be taken to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) at afca.org.au.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on the Site, with the date it was last updated shown at the top.
